My First Do-Gooder Paycheck
…
I just received my first paycheck from volunteering at the local Animal Shelter, as my own version of the Do-Goodery that the other Do-Gooder showoffs have on their resumes. I won’t say they shamed me into it, because they are not “shamers” by nature, but they inspired me. They are most definitely inspirers by nature.
On 11/11 I had day number 1 of my dogwalking duties. In kennel A-1 was my 1st dog walking client. [If you’re keeping score, that’s a series of four 1st’s occurring on 11/11. Those of you familiar with the “woo-woo” 1111 goofiness are smiling right now.]
That first dog’s name was Luna and I was totally smitten. I’m a cat person, but my wife and I have had a wonderful dog, and we’ve hosted our daughter’s stellar pooch for weeks at a time, so I’m a dog fan, too. They just have a different style than my kitty pals.
My reward for showing up for dog-walking duty:

Luna has agreed to move in with us. She looks almost exactly like her predecessors here at the house, who were themselves nearly identical in appearance. So much does she resemble them that our two cats don’t seem to know the difference, which brought a huge sigh of relief from this cat lover.
I will have to let them know at the Animal Shelter, though, that I probably can’t afford any more paychecks for awhile.
