Spring Snow
John Joseph 5-11-10
The Earth has worn her coat of white,
All the short days of winter
Then,
Minutes of light are added,
Each Day.
Soon there will be more light
Then dark.
March brings daffodils,
As bright as the sun,
First colors to show.
Earth tries on her white winter coat
The last of Spring Snow.
But never keeps it on for long.
Avalanche lilies raise head,
Above melting snow.
Delicate Johnny Jump Ups,
Also Known AS,
Yellow Violets
Begin to bloom.
Pale blue Forget Me Nots’
Arrive with the longer days.
Trilliums,
Beautiful three pedaled white stars,
In the middle of large leafs,
In the shape of a three cornered hat.
Balanced on a sturdy green stem.
In a week they will turn pink
Another week almost red.
Then,
They’re gone.
Apple blossoms, cherry blooms
Tulips of many colors,
Rhododendrons of all shades,
Earth has put on her coat of many colors.
She dances gaily,
Still there is the chance for her to
Wear her white coat one more time.
Mountain Lupine,
Dark blue against the new green meadows.
Yellow lily like flowers every where.
Pink ,yellow and white ground flowers
Hugging the ground
Holding what little warmth
Given them by day.
Cascades abound ,
Some large,
Some small.
Once, one drop,
Of melting Spring Snow
Chipmunks, ground squirrels
Squiring about.
Birds of all kinds
Searching for food,
To feed new hatchlings.
New lambs,
New calves,
The long legged colts,
Fawns,
Baby bears, and elk.
In pastures,
Of fresh new grasses.
The Shades of green
Up and down hills,
Against the blue sky.
So many,
Shades of Green.
Mother Earth in her new coat
Of many colors.
Looks elegant
True joy to the eyes.
I now think I understand,
The phrase,
“ Riot of Spring.”
Don’t tell me there’s no Creator
All this is not by Chance.
